Training
Where to Begin
To select a dog class for your dog, first consider your dogs’ age, maturity, behavior, and previous experience with training. Based on this information, determine your dog class level and dog class schedule. Would you be better off in a group class, a private lesson, or a behavioral consultation?
Your dog should attend Puppy Basics if it is less than 6 months old. Your dog should attend the Basic Obedience class if it is 8 months or older. Dogs 6-8 months old can attend either the Puppy Basics or the Basic Obedience class depending on the dogs maturity and size. The differences between these two beginning classes are the time allotted for “puppy play” and the methods used for “socialization” among the dogs, and to distribute the dog size differences between young and older dogs and large or small breeds. Intermediate Obedience class is for any dog that has successfully completed Basic Obedience class or for an owner with an older dog that has had some previous training experience.
If you are interested in entering a class than review the class schedule calendars. Decide what class level your dog will fit into. From the available classes, select a day of the week that fits your schedule and look for the start date. Insert the class title and start date into your registration form and forward the completed form. This will pre-register you for the class and hold a spot for you. If you think you need more one-on-one attention or a different schedule please call or send me an email, merit@topdogschool.com.
